Minecraft: Story Mode Ep 5 Decamps To Sky City

The latest chunk

The fifth episode of the Telltale episodic adventure Minecraft: Story Mode [official site] is out now - it was due to be the final episode but Telltale are now going to do an extra three episodes as DLC not covered by the season pass. So a kind of epilogue, I guess? Or maybe a mini adventure? Or maybe we will watch a man patting trees down in order to make a table for a while?

The latter is probably why I am not working at Telltale as a story creator. ANYWAY. Episode 5 has a trailer:

I'm going to confess that I am not up to date with Minecraft: Story Mode. I'm not even up to date with regular Minecraft, which is something I will need to change at some point so my niece can think I'm cool. At the moment I'm just coasting on knowing the lyrics to all the Frozen songs.

BUT I have watched the trailer and something is going down in Sky City which seems to involve a kind of authoritarian regime hovering in the sky and a ban on building wherever you fancy. Also an evil guy called Aiden.

As an old and out of touch person I sometimes feel like it would be nice to have building regulations in Minecraft so that fellow server dwellers couldn't just turn up and build a quarry somewhere *I* was going to build a fishing lake or a rollercoaster.

Also punishments for people who, just to pick a completely random and hypothetical situation out of the air, come over to your awesome disco hall complete with flashing light blocks in the floor which you spent ages getting material from the Nether to build and then there's an explosion and you find out they were being followed by a creeper and the whole thing is a ruined mess. For example.

Anyway, I feel like I'm at least a little bit on the side of the Sky City government regime. They have to come up with conservation programs for a skyborne city, for goodness sake. Perhaps they will turn out to be secretly good in the end.

OH HERE IS A SUMMARY:

"On a tip from Ivor, Jesse and friends head to an abandoned temple holding mysterious treasures. Ambushed by former Ocelot Aiden and his crew, our heroes find themselves in an entirely new world: Sky City! As they explore, the Order finds that resources are at a premium, and nothing but 'The Void' exists below the known world. When Aiden convinces Sky City's ruler that the New Order of the Stone are up to no good, you'll need to make some tough choices to clear your name, and keep Aiden from destroying an innocent world."

I don't really understand what a "former Ocelot" is. Is he a man who used to be a cat? Is that something from a new patch? Is an Ocelot with a capital O a faction? Did his name used to be Ocelot? So many questions.

God, I'm so uncool.

Disclaimer: A good friend of mine - Marsh Davies - now works over at Mojang. The last time we spoke in any depth about Minecraft was in 2014 when I cried on a podcast we were both on (I was a guest) because I was so upset about a cube-world recreation of an artwork by Christopher Nevinson. You might also know him from his Premature Evaluation alt-text-stravaganzas on RPS, his illustration work and his various other games-related shenanigans. I'm now wondering if I warned him about the Swedish salt liquorice situation. Oh well, he'll just have to find out about that on his own.
