Tankyou Very Much: Panzer Corps Free Weekend

Free to play RIGHT NOW

Panzer Corps [official site], the heir to the Panzer General series of WWII strategy games, is free to play this weekend through Steam. The free weekend has already begun (unlike the actual weekend, I grumble into my third coffee of the morning) and "during that time there will be a 75% discount on the base game and a 50% discount on all the DLCs" say publishers Slitherine. That's £3.74 for the base game and £30.49 for the gargantuan collection. A splendid opportunity to take these monstrous vehicles for a test drive.

The Corps found a place in our list of the Best Strategy Games on PC, where I attempted to convince everyone with an interest in historical strategy to give it a shot:

Panzer Corps targets players’ intelligence rather than their knowledge, and works to encourage and reward smart tactical approaches and a basic understanding of operational strategy. Everything you need to know to make a decision is readily at hand in the unobtrusive and helpful interface, and within a couple of hours, you’ll be ready to take the stabiliser wheels off your tanks and start cooking up some experimental plans of your own.

Panzer Corps is the Lego set next to Gary Grigsby’s Meccano, and that’s absolutely fine. Who doesn’t want to play with Lego every once in a while?

If you've dabbled with Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon's orks and Imperium take on the formula, you'll have a good idea what to expect from Panzer Corps. The free weekend ends Monday and there will be livestreams of the game throughout the weekend over at Slitherine's Twitch channel.
