A list of things I am afraid of
The mind killer
I am currently reading Melmoth, by Sarah Perry. She wrote After Me Comes The Flood and The Essex Serpent, which were both very well received, although I haven't read either. Melmoth was a birthday present from my brother. Also included in the parcel was a biro in the shape of a black feather, with a razor thin nib. Melmoth, it turns out, is a very unsettling book. I was so unsettled that I read for about half an hour at bedtime and then had to leave the reading light on and put the covers over my head and text my boyfriend to say my book was ascawy. I can be afraid of a lot of things, if I let myself.
