How to play Connections
Connections is one of the most popular (and challenging) daily puzzle games published by the New York Times (owners of Wordle). The aim of Connections is to group the 16 words of the day into four groups, where each group of four words has a common theme.
For instance, the words "Hook", "Nana", "Peter", and "Wendy" are all Peter Pan characters. Or to take another example, "Action", "Ballpark", "Go", and "Stick" are all words which commonly come just before the word "Figure".
Your job is to figure out what these themes are that connect the various words together - but be wary, because a lot of the time there are deceptive red herring connections placed purely to throw you off! To win the game, you have to find all four Connections without making 4 mistakes. On your fourth mistake, the game is over and the answer is revealed automatically.
Each of the four groups in each day's Connections puzzle is also assigned a different colour, which represents how easy or difficult the Connection is to find. These colours are: Yellow (Easiest), Green (Easy), Blue (Medium), and Purple (Hardest).

What is today's Connections answer?
Here is the answer to today's Connections puzzle on Sunday, 30th March:
- Yellow: Average (Mean, Norm, Par, Standard)
- Green: Pictured On The U.S. Great Seal (Arrows, Eagle, Olive Branch, Shield)
- Blue: Proper Nouns In Broadway Musical Titles That Are Spoken Phrases (Birdie, Dolly, Kate, Yankees)
- Purple: ___Man (Bogey, Crafts, Gentle, Spokes)

Thanks to 'standard' and 'norm', finding the yellow group wasn't too hard. I suspect only the word 'par' presents a bit of a struggle, as perhaps not everyone is familiar with that one. The green theme is probably far more divisive, as it'll be far easier to solve if you're American and therefore familiar with the Great Seal. I myself am not, and although I've seen the seal before (and a gorgeous seal it is), I wouldn't be able to recall it exactly.
With so many (nick)names present, it made sense to group them together, but since that only brought me to a total of three, I had to put them aside. It took me a while to find the next group after that, but ultimately I thought of 'gentleman', which led to the discovery of the other three men.
I was left with eight words and no idea how to separate them into two groups, so I did what I always do in such cases, and separated them by a vague association. In this case, I had four 'ways of addressing/naming people', and so I tried the names, nickname, and the yankees together, which - lucky for me - worked. I've really got to learn Broadway trivia though - it always pops up in the Connections puzzles every now and then, and I never understand it!
Congratulations if you got today's Connections answer right, with or without the help of our handy hints above! And if you didn't succeed today, don't worry - a new Connections puzzle is released every day at midnight, so you can try again tomorrow, just like with Wordle!
