Want to know where to find a Dapperwing in Monster Hunter Wilds? Dapperwings are a type of Endemic Life species, a returning type of life which significantly bulks out the ecosystems of Monster Hunter's various regions. Endemic Life can't be directly hunted or killed, but in Monster Hunter Wilds you can capture them using a Capture Net - and one side quest in particular requires you to seek out and capture a Dapperwing.

That quest, as you'll probably know if you're reading this, is Samin's Research Report - a side quest available from fairly early on in the game. Dapperwings, Samin tells you, can only be found in the Scarlet Forest region. But even with that information, it can be tough to know where to look, especially if you don't know what Dapperwings look like.

In this guide, we'll explain exactly where to go to find Dapperwings aplenty in the Scarlet Forest of Monster Hunter Wilds, and how to capture them for Samin's Research Report.

Dapperwing locations in Monster Hunter Wilds

Dapperwings can be found in various parts of the Scarlet Forest, the second region of Monster Hunter Wilds. You can find them in any season, although they're easier to spot during the season of Plenty as they're particularly vibrant in colour then. You're also likely to have more luck searching for Dapperwings during the daytime.

In particular, there are two places to search if you're having trouble finding a Dapperwing. The first location to search is by the ruins on the west side of area 12 in the Forest. There are often lots of birds flitting about this area or resting on the upper ledges of the ruins. Many will be Amstrigians, but some will also likely be Dapperwings that you can capture.

The second location to search for Dapperwings is by the shore of the Great Lake in area 17 of the Forest, the furthest north section of the map. There's a particular ledge overlooking the lake where multiple Dapperwings like to perch and survey the area during the day, so you're likely to find them there.

How to catch a Dapperwing in Monster Hunter Wilds

Wherever you happen to find your Dapperwing, you can capture it by selecting your Capture Net from your hotbar or radial menu (if you've added it there). Then hold LT or Right-Click to aim your Capture Net, and a rectangular aid will appear around your crosshair. If the rectangle is orange, then you're in range to capture what you're aiming at. If the rectangle stays white, then you'll need to get closer before you fire the net.

Once you're in position, you can fire the net by tapping RT or F while aiming. If you're in range, you'll automatically capture the Dapperwing (or whatever else you're aiming at) in the net.

If you were looking for a Dapperwing to complete Samin's Research Report side quest, then once you've captured at least one Dapperwing in your Capture Net you can return to Samin at Base Camp and speak with him to complete the quest.
