Looking for Nirnroot locations in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered? These mysterious blue-green plants don't respawn and are therefore very rare, which wouldn't be a problem if you didn't need a whopping total of 100 Nirnroots to complete a quest called Seeking Your Roots.

If you give 10 Nirnroots to an alchemist named Sinderion, who resides in Skingrad's West Weald Inn, he'll make the Elixir of Exploration for you, which fortifies various stats. To make this potion even stronger, you can bring an additional 20, 30, and 40 Nirnroots to Sinderion. Every stack of 10 Nirnroots given to Sinderion after the first 100 is rewarded with gold.

To help you harvest these unique roots, here's where to find the best Nirnroot farming locations in Oblivion Remastered.

Best Nirnroot locations in Oblivion

Before we point you to the best Nirnroot locations, you should know that Nirnroot only grows near bodies of water. If you're just looking to grab a few Nirnroots, run along the shoreline in the west or along the edge of almost any river or lake in Cyrodiil (even tiny ones) and you should find some before long. Besides your eyes, be sure to keep your ears open, because Nirnroots make a distinct humming sound when you're close enough.

Nirnroots are occasionally found in buildings too (grown in pots), but it's generally easier to collect them in the wild rather than search indoors.

Imperial City Nirnroot locations

One of the best spots to gather Nirnroots is on the riverbed around the Imperial City. As shown on this Nirnroot map, you can find a total of 56 plants in this area, which is more than half of what you'll need to complete Seeking Your Roots. Here's a farming route you can use:

  • Start at the Chestnut Handy Stables and jump into the river on the left, where you'll find the first Nirnroot on the sand bank.
  • Cross the bridge to the north (not shown on map) and turn east along the coast.
  • Upon reaching the Ayleid Well, cross to the other side of the river again and grab the two Nirnroots on the little pond (optionally: grab the two north of the Bastion as well).
  • Cross the river towards Fort Urasek and continue south.
  • Upon reaching the bridge, continue south for a bit, than cross the river towards Fort Variela.
  • Run north, back to the bridge, and continue north until you've got the last Nirnroot in this area, then cross the river to Fatback cave and collect the three Nirnroots here.
  • Cross to the southern shore again and run along each of the smaller inland waterways here. You can cross to the Imperial City Waterfront to grab two additional Nirnroots.
  • Go north along the western shore. When you reach Weye, visit the small lake to the west (not on the map) to grab one more Nirnroot from the southernmost shore.

Bravil Nirnroot locations

Another amazing Nirnroot location is Bravil and its surrounding riverlands. You'll find a few Nirnroots in Bravil itself (near the canals) and a few more near the bridges just outside the city, but the easiest Nirnroots to gather are the ones on the riverbed. This map shows more than 70 Nirnroot locations, which is enough to complete Seeking Your Roots up until the final quest objective. Here's an efficient farming route to use:

  • Start in Bravil, then follow the river to the south.
  • Cross the river to Fort Redman (across the tiny island south of the bridge, there are two Nirnroots there), then follow the river north.
  • Follow the Panther River to the east.
  • Follow the Silverfish river to the east.
  • Visit Lake Canulus and the northern side of Niben Bay for a few more Nirnroots.

Leyawiin Nirnroot locations

Leyawiin and the southern river delta house plenty of Nirnroots, but be sure to check the swamp in the northeast as well. | Image credit: Bethesda/Virtuos

A bit further south, around Leyawiin and the river delta, you can collect over 30 Nirnroots. There are some in Leyawiin itself (check the ponds in front of the castle) but be sure to walk around the town walls on the east side too. Northeast of Leyawiin, in the 'County Leyawiin' marshes, you'll easily find another 30+ Nirnroots. We've marked them with a large yellow star as this swamp region lacks map details, so it's hard to pinpoint the exact locations of each Nirnroot. However, if you stick to the waterside, you should find a large stack of Nirnroots here.

Anvil Nirnroot locations

The final batch of 18 Nirnroots are found on the western coastline, around Anvil. You can start in Anvil itself; there's just one Nirnroot within the city walls, next to the mermaid statue. After that, just follow the coastline and be sure not to miss the docks and lighthouse peninsula west of Anvil.

And that's where to find the best Nirnroot locations in Oblivion Remastered. Once you've completed Seeking Your Roots, perhaps you'd like to complete every Daedric Quest or close more Oblivion Gates. Collecting spells to start spellcrafting or experimenting with vampirism is equally fun!
