How to cure any disease in Oblivion Remastered
Here's how to cure every disease in the Oblivion remake
How do you cure diseases in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered? Cyrodiil, it turns out, is a veritable cesspool of diseases, and many of its inhabitants are just itching (literally in some cases) to pass it onto you wherever you set foot in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Fortunately, whether you're struck with Brain Rot, Ticklebritch, or a nasty case of the Collywobbles, the antidote is always the same: the aptly named "Cure Disease" effect.
In the guide below, we'll walk you through how to cure any disease in Oblivion Remastered, and all the different ways in which you can apply the "Cure Disease" effect upon yourself, from potions and wortcraft to the Restoration school Spell and from whom it can be purchased.
How to cure disease in Oblivion Remastered
Almost all diseases in Oblivion are cured in the same manner: by consuming an ingredient or food item, drinking a Potion, or casting a Spell with the "Cure Disease" effect. Doing this will instantly cure you of any disease that currently ails you.
The only exception to this rule is Vampirism. The Cure Disease effect will remove Porphyric Hemophilia, the disease that gives you Vampirism; but it has no effect on Vampirism itself. For more information on that, view our guide on how to cure Vampirism. (We also have a guide on how to become a Vampire, if that's more your thing.)
All items with the Cure Disease effect
There are several items and spells which can provide you with the Cure Disease effect. The easiest method is to simply eat an ingredient or food item which has Cure Disease as its primary effect. These ingredients are:
- Mandrake Root
- Root Pulp
- Clannfear Claws
- Shepherd's Pie
With high enough Alchemy, you can also create a Potion of Cure Disease with any ingredient that has Cure Disease for any of its effects, not just its primary effect. So in addition to the above four ingredients, you can also create a Cure Disease Potion from the following:
- Elf Cup Cap
- Hunger Tongue
- Red Kelp Gas Bladder
- Withering Moon
Unusually, wortcraft (the act of eating raw ingredients instead of making them into Potions) is actually better in the case of curing disease, because the Cure Disease effect is always the same, and cannot be made any stronger through Alchemy. So you might as well just nibble on some Mandrake Root, as it has the same effect as making a full Potion of Cure Disease, and it's less wasteful to boot!
How to get the Cure Disease Spell
Once you gain access to the Cure Disease Spell, then you have the ability to immediately remove any disease from your character at your fingertips forevermore. So, how do you get the Spell?
The Cure Disease Spell is a Journeyman-level Spell from the Restoration school. To get it, you must purchase it from one of the following magical vendors for 140 Gold:
Vendor | Chapel | City |
---|---|---|
Avrus Adas | Great Chapel of Zenithar | Leyawiin |
Isa Raman | Great Chapel of Talos | Bruma |
Ohtesse | Great Chapel of Arkay | Cheydinhal |
Orag gra-Bargol | Chapel of Stendarr | Chorrol |
Trevaia | Chapel of Dibella | Anvil |
Tumindil | Great Chapel of Julianos | Skingrad |
Uravasa Othrelas | Great Chapel of Mara | Bravil |
Once you have access to the Cure Disease Spell (and have reached Journeyman level in the Restoration school), you can also add the effect to brand new Spells that you create using an Altar of Spellmaking. But again, the Cure Disease effect doesn't get any stronger or weaker in different forms, so you might as well just use the bogstandard Cure Disease Spell.
How to cure disease using console commands
If you don't mind bending the rules a bit, then you can easily cure any disease using the console in Oblivion. If you're afflicted with any disease, then simply open the console with the tilde key (next to the "1" key on your keyboard), and paste the following console command:
player.AddItem 0000920E 1
This command will give you a Potion of Cure Disease, which you can find in your inventory. Drink it, and all your diseases will be cured!
There are also console commands which can remove specific diseases. This is useful if for whatever reason you want to get rid of certain but not all of your diseases; but if you want to just purge yourself of all diseases, the easiest way is to use the above command to give yourself the Cure Disease Potion.

As mentioned above, the only exception to this is Vampirism. While the Disease which gives you Vampirism (Porphyric Hemophilia) can be cured by the Cure Disease effect, if you leave the disease for 72 hours it will become true Vampirism, which is the only "disease" that you cannot cure using the Cure Disease effect.
