The ragged orange claws of Trump, the weird hollow core of the UK general election, the life story of an art forger and a piece about how to make your weekend seem longer in retrospect are just some of the pieces I've been reading this week. The rest of my reading has actually been offline, curling up with impulse-bought paperbacks on trains to and fro or huddled in a corner at Birmingham's NEC. The latter let me fade into the background as I charged my phone between the show floor closing and the start of the Shut Up and Sit Down live shows I was participating in. I love how books let you hide in plain sight or retreat into some personal space even in a crowd. This weekend I got through Sophie Hannah's debut take on Poirot in The Monogram Murders and polished off the strong-starting and weak-finishing The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena.
