It's just a phrase

In the filthy cacophony we call language, a kenning is a compound that describes an object in a colourful but roundabout way. It’s a dirty pleasure in journalism, where we are taught to speak plainly because if you use too many words things become impossibly ludicrously irrevocably intolerably crap. Don’t use adverbs, we’re warned. Don’t overwrite. Don’t use two words when one will d-- Hang on, did you just describe a piece of coal as a “barbecue battery”? YES. Damn the rules. Give me more of THAT.

This is the kenning, and one game understands its beauty: Donut County.
