Goldenfish locations

Goldenfish aren't uncommon among the various fishing spots of Monster Hunter Wilds, but to maximise your chances of finding and catching one, you should fish in caves and other dark areas, because Goldenfish tend to avoid sunlight. For this reason, you likely won't find many Goldenfish in the same wide open fishing spots that you might find, say, a Whopper. Goldenfish are more reclusive.

Goldenfish can be found in the Windward Plains, the Scarlet Forest, the Oilwell Basin, and the Iceshard Cliffs. But the easiest place to find them is in the caves around areas 8 and 12 of the Scarlet Forest. If you go fishing in these well-hidden spots, you'll soon be swimming in Golden Scales.

There are two cave fishing spots in this region, and both of them are hidden behind different waterfalls. The first is in area 12: it's a very large waterfall found next to the lake beneath the Wudwuds Hideout. This opens up into a vast underwater cave (which you can dive down into), and you'll often see a number of Goldenfish here.

The second fishing spot for Goldenfish is possibly even better. It's located behind a smaller waterfall to the north of area 8, and inside this cave you'll find a smaller fishing area that is often jam-packed with Goldenfish and Platinumfish.

Remember also to use the correct bait! At the beginning of Kanya's "Seeking The Goldenfish" quest she'll give you a specific type of bait to use: the Golden Bughead. This bait drives Goldenfish nuts, making it far easier to catch them.

Goldenfish are well worth seeking out, along with their even rarer and more valuable kin, the Platinumfish. Not only will they give you valuable scales when caught, which you can sell for lots of zennies; but you'll need to catch a Goldenfish for your first fishing side quest given to you by Kanya back at the Scarlet Forest base camp. Once you've caught a Goldenfish, return to her to complete the quest.

That's all you need to know in order to find and catch Goldenfish in the dozens!
