Wondering how to make Artian Weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds? The Artian Weapons system is a brand new addition to Monster Hunter Wilds, and essentially a powerful way to create custom weapons outside of the traditional Monster Hunter Wilds weapons tree, complete with the element or status type of your choosing.

But before you can start gathering Artian Materials, you'll need to put a dent in the main questline, due to the particular monster variants that drop these materials. In the guide below, we'll explain this new weapon type, the different materials you'll need to craft them, and at what point in the story you'll unlock them.

What are Artian Weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Artian Weapons are a new weapon type that you can craft using three different materials. After completing Chapter 4-3, you'll start to unlock Artian Materials rewards from Tempered Monster hunts. If you haven't reached this point yet and aren't familiar with Tempered Monsters, they're basically a stronger variant. The simple premise is that they're more experienced and as such are tougher.

Just like Hunter Symbols, every Tempered Monster hunt will give you Artian Materials that are then appraised similar to Decorations. Therefore, you won't immediately know what you're getting when looking at a monster on the map. Fortunately, you can still see what rarity those materials will be. This is important since aside from crafting stronger weapons, you'll need each material's rarity level to be the same.

Every Artian Weapon is built at Gemma using three parts that vary slightly depending on the weapon. For example, the Insect Glaive requires a Blade, Tube, and Device. Each part has an Element Type and an Artian Bonus. If you pick two parts with Paralysis and one with Fire, that weapon will have Paralysis as an element. As long as the majority of the parts have the element you want, it becomes that element. However, it won't have an element if every part is a different element.

If you're unsure what the Artian Bonus is, here's what you need to know. Every Artian Part has either Affinity Infusion or Attack Infusion. This is a complicated way of saying that part increases your weapon's attack or affinity. Unlike the Element Type, you can mix and match the bonuses however you want.

Once you've finished creating your Artian Weapon, you can make it stronger via reinforcing. This is similar to how Armor Spheres increase the defence of your gear. Instead of Armor Spheres, you'll need a certain ore type that you can get from smelting monster parts in Azuz. Otherwise, the Azuz people will occasionally give you some via Festival Shares at the Smelting Foundry.

Using ores like Drearisite or Oricalcite with Gemma will give your Artian Weapons Reinforcement Bonuses. Examples of these little buffs are increased attack, elemental damage, affinity, sharpness, etc. And when you're no longer using that Artian Weapon, you can dismantle it to get materials back.

With all that said, Artian Parts are only for creating weapons. So if you vaguely remember this material from Monster Hunter World's expansion Iceborne or Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, you won't be able to create armour using it. Which of course means you'll still need to grind monsters to get the armour you want.

How to farm Artian Materials in Monster Hunter Wilds

The best way to farm Artian Materials revolves around Investigations. You can spend Guild Points to save a previous hunt you've done to repeat it three more times. This works well because it gives you the same bonus rewards as the first time you completed your quest.

And yes, that means you can do this with rare materials like gems that can have a 3% drop rate. The only RNG here is getting a quest with the bonus rewards you want. That aside, the trick for Artian Materials is to look for a monster with the rarity you need and bonus rewards to earn more. Here are the different material types and their rarities:

  • Ancient Weapon Fragment - Rarity 7
    • This red part becomes a Rarity 8 part that you can get from 7-star Tempered Monsters and above.
  • Rusted Weapon Shard - Rarity 6
    • This pink part becomes a Rarity 7 part that you can get from 6-star Tempered Monsters.
  • Damaged Weapon Shard - Rarity 5
    • This white part becomes a Rarity 6 part that you can get from 5 and 6-star Tempered Monsters.
