Want to know how to get Hunter Symbol 3 in Monster Hunter Wilds? Hunter Symbols are special crafting materials that comes in three varieties: 1, 2, and 3. They are used to craft every single final-form weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds, as well as a number of late-game armor sets.

Hunter Symbol 3 is the most important type, because it often allows you to craft the best weapons and best armor in the game. But you can only get your hands on it once you've reached a certain Hunter Rank, and even then only when you hunt specific types of monsters.

Needless to say, as you enter the endgame you'll be after plenty of Hunter Symbols to craft your ideal final form weaponry. In this guide, we'll show you exactly how to get Hunter Symbol 3 and its earlier variants, and the exact monsters that can give you the different ranks of Hunter Symbols.

How to get Hunter Symbols in MH Wilds

The only way to get Hunter Symbols in Monster Hunter Wilds is to hunt a Tempered Monster in a quest. For Hunter Symbol 3, you need to hunt either a Tempered Arkveld, a Tempered Gore Magala, or a Tempered Apex monster (Rey Dau, Uth Duna, Nu Udra, or Jin Dahaad).

A Tempered Monster is a variant of a Large Monster which has more health and greater damage than regular variants. These Tempered Monsters have lived longer and risen to the top of their ecosystem thanks to the "tempering" of their skills from many successful battles.

Tempered Monsters will start to appear in every region after the Chapter 4-3 main story quest, "Wyvern Sparks And Rose Thorns".

The type of Hunter Symbol you're given (1, 2, or 3) depends on the strength of the Tempered Monster that you defeat:

Hunter SymbolTempered Monster LevelHunter Rank needed
Hunter Symbol 15-StarHR 20+
Hunter Symbol 26-StarHR 31+
Hunter Symbol 37/8-StarHR 41+

To begin with, only Hunter Symbol 1 will be available. To get the quests to hunt more powerful Tempered Monsters, you need to increase your Hunter Rank. Once you reach HR 31, you'll unlock quests to hunt Tempered Monsters for Hunter Symbol 2; and for Hunter Symbol 3, the quests will unlock only once you reach HR 41.

To see the type of Hunter Symbol you'll get from a particular Tempered Monster, select the monster's icon on the map, and navigate to the "Quest Rewards" list under "Quest Info".

Which quests give Hunter Symbols?
Hunter Symbols are, technically, just quest rewards for quests involving hunting Tempered monsters. These quests can be either an Optional Quest or a Field Survey. Optional Quests are side quests given by NPCs, and you can speak to Alma to select and start one. Field Surveys, on the other hand, are started by dealing enough damage to a Monster or by selecting a Monster's icon on the map.

If you accept a quest to hunt a Tempered Monster, and you succeed (either by killing or capturing), you'll be rewarded with at least one Hunter Symbol.

Here are the Tempered Monsters that will give you Hunter Symbols upon a successful hunting quest.

To get Hunter Symbol 3 you must reach Hunter Rank 41 and hunt a 7-Star or 8-Star Tempered Monster. These are the monsters that will give you Hunter Symbol 3:

These are the toughest fights that Monster Hunter Wilds has to offer at the moment, so none of them are particularly easy. But if you want to farm Hunter Symbol 3, we recommend you repeatedly hunt the Tempered Nu Udra or Tempered Rey Dau, because they're arguably the least dangerous monsters of the lot.

How to get Hunter Symbol 2

To get Hunter Symbol 2 you must reach Hunter Rank 31 and hunt a 6-Star Tempered Monster out of the following:

  • Tempered Doshaguma
  • Tempered Ajarakan
  • Tempered Gravios
  • Tempered Blangonga
  • Tempered Hirabami
  • Tempered Xu Wu
  • Tempered Guardian Doshaguma
  • Tempered Guardian Ebony Odogaron
  • Tempered Guardian Fulgur Anjanath
  • Tempered Guardian Rathalos
  • Tempered Rathalos

If you want to get Hunter Symbol 2 in large quantities as quickly as possible, then hunt the Tempered Blangonga. It has pretty much the lowest health pool of all the 6-Star monsters, and its weakness to fire is very easy to exploit. This is one of the easiest fights in the game, so farming Hunter Symbol 2 shouldn't be much of an issue.

To get Hunter Symbol 1 you must reach Hunter Rank 20, and then hunt one of the following 5-Star Tempered monsters:

The obvious choice of monster for farming Hunter Symbol 1 is the Tempered Chatacabra. This lowly monster is little more than a slow-moving tutorial for the combat system of Monster Hunter Wilds, so there's not much it will do to defend itself against your attacks. Bring a Thunder or Poison weapon and the fight will be over in no time.
