  • Talk to Nata in the Windward Plains

Track down Nata in the Windward Plains Base Camp to have a conversation about Arkveld. It only makes sense that we're back to speaking about the Monster Hunter Wilds flagship monster. This conversation revolves around a bizarre Arkveld in the area taking out apex predators. With the help of Erik, we try to understand what's going on and if it's related to the Frenzy Virus.

What Lies Ahead walkthrough

What Lies Ahead objectives

  • Talk to Nata in the Windward Plains
  • Investigate Arkveld
    • Optional: Investigate the carcass
  • Slay Arkveld

After your last conversation, you'll end up in a new main mission where it's time to prepare for the final Monster Hunter Wilds hunt. Upgrade your gear and resupply before talking to Nata again. Bring Nulberries, Flash Pods, both traps, and the usual buff items like Armorskin and Demondrug. Make sure to eat food before you leave as well. And as far as weapons go, this monster is vulnerable to the Dragon element.

Once you're ready for the Chapter 6-1 finale, talk to Nata and follow him through the plains. You'll come across two slain monsters that may have been the handiwork of a strong Arkveld.

Tips for the Arkveld fight

Unlike our last encounter with the guardian variant, this normal version of Arkveld doesn't have certain attacks. For example, you won't have crystal walls to blow up with elemental slinger ammo. However, the cutscene going into this fight shows that this Arkveld is far from basic. If you played the Monster Hunter Wilds beta, you may recognize them. Since this Arkveld has many of the same attacks as their guardian variant in Chapter 3-4, we'll list some tips and tricks here.

  • The first area has a Falling Ground Pillar you can drop onto Arkveld. If you're worried about their mobility, you can place a trap where the pillar falls.
  • Their body parts are similar to the guardian variant in that their head is breakable, their tail is severable, and their chainblades are a breakable weak point.
  • Prioritise breaking Arkveld's chainblades when they whip them forward and take time to recover. Certain attacks take longer than others.
  • Arkveld's wings store their energy, allowing for explosive red attacks fueled by the Dragon element. Attacking their wings and hitting them with elemental damage can disable this enhanced state.
  • During their enhanced state, they'll whip the ground using their chainblades to create glowing red areas. After a moment, those red lines will explode dealing damage near them.
  • Anytime Arkveld is glowing red, you can assume a powerful attack is coming. Try to run away, dodge, or Superman dive if you're not sure what to expect.
  • Always take advantage of breaking wounds so you can slow down the fight by stunning Arkveld.
  • If Arkveld flees somewhere and goes to sleep, use explosive barrels to wake them up.
  • As they flee to different areas, watch for environmental hazards and endemic life you can use to your advantage, such as the Vine Trap in zone 8 or the Paratoads in zone 10.
  • One deadly attack to worry about is telegraphed by a whale-sounding roar where the camera zooms out slightly. Arkveld will wave their glowing red chainblades in the air before creating several massive explosions forward. These explosions start close to them and continue outward. Your best move is to run to the left or right to avoid the .
  • If certain attacks are hitting you too hard, you may want to get the Divine Blessing skill or try increasing your defence with better armour.

Once you've slain Arkveld, you'll have a short conversation with Alma before getting back to Nata. This triggers a cutscene leading to the completion of Chapter 6-1 and the Monster Hunter Wilds story. Even though the chapter is now over, you can find Nata in the Windward Plains Base Camp to get a pendant. Congratulations!
