Want to know how to craft Tranq Bombs in Monster Hunter Wilds? Tranq Bombs are a powerful tool, particularly when it comes to the art of capturing monsters instead of killing them. We've got a whole guide devoted to how to capture monsters, but if you're looking for Tranq Bombs to carry out this plan, you'll quickly find that you can neither gather nor purchase them anywhere in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Thus, the only option remaining is to craft them yourself. In the guide below, we'll walk you through how to craft Tranq Bombs in Monster Hunter Wilds, along with some useful tips on exactly where to go to find the two key ingredients in the crafting process.

How to craft Tranq Bombs

To craft a Tranq Bomb, you need 1x Sleep Herb and 1x Parashroom. Once you have those items, you can craft the Tranq Bomb by opening the in-game menu, navigating to "Crafting List" at the top of the "Items & Equipment" tab, and selecting the Tranq Bomb (number 046 in the list).

You can access the Crafting List at any time to craft Tranq Bombs, but bear in mind that you can only craft them if you have the recipe ingredients on your person. If the ingredients are in your Item Box in your Tent, you'll need to retrieve them first.

Where to get Sleep Herbs

Early on in Monster Hunter Wilds, you can gather some Sleep Herbs from area 10 of the Windward Plains, the first region in the game. Beyond the river, there are three spread-out Sleep Herbs you can pick.

Later on, the best way to gather Sleep Herbs for crafting Tranq Bombs is through Material Retrieval. Two characters are able to specifically gather Sleep Herbs for you: Murtabak in Kunafa (Windward Plains), and Apar in Suja. You can unlock both these material retrieval NPCs by completing the following side quests:

  • To unlock Murtabak (Windward Plains Material Retrieval): Complete "Beware The Gypceros" quest.
  • To unlock Apar (Suja Material Retrieval): Complete "Secure Wounded Hollow" quest.

Both these quests are available to complete after you've beaten Chapter 3 of the main story.

Of the two, Apar is far better at retrieving Sleep Herbs in Suja, so we'd recommend setting her to gather Sleep Herbs for you if you're in need of Tranq Bomb crafting materials.

Where to get Parashrooms

To get Parashrooms, the best place to go is area 7 and 8 of the Scarlet Forest, where you'll find 4 Parashrooms growing a short distance from each other. Beyond that, your best bet is again to unlock Material Retrieval in two specific areas: Oilwell Basin, and Wyveria.

  • To unlock Sabar (Oilwell Basin Material Retrieval): Complete "Aida's Apprehensions" quest.
  • To unlock Rysher (Wyveria Material Retrieval): Complete "Astonishing Adaptability" quest.

Both NPCs are as good as each other when it comes to gathering Parashrooms, so if you're in need of Tranq Bombs I'd suggest setting both to collect Parashrooms so you'll be well stocked up for the foreseeable future.
