Wondering how to complete Chapter 1-1 in Monster Hunter Wilds? Our walkthrough guides you through the only main mission in Chapter 1-1 named Desert Trotters. While it starts with more of a cinematic experience, you will eventually get to fight your first monster.

Desert Trotters walkthrough
Desert Trotters objectives:
- Follow the girl
- Stagger the monster

Monster Hunter Wilds starts with a short cutscene showing a group of people trying to escape a monster where only one child named Nata escapes. It then cuts to the expedition crew rescuing Nata in the Windward Plains. Once the cutscene ends, you can customize your character and palico.
This leads into another cutscene where the expedition crew finds another child to rescue. After leaping onto a Seikret, you'll get an introduction to the controls even though you can't do much yet. Follow the objectives as your Seikret mount automatically follows the girl. This section holds your hand as you hit monsters with Screamer Pods, grab more from Wingdrakes, and do a couple of other interactions.
Once you finish this segment, you'll move on to finding the girl's brother and trying weapons. This is a good time to adjust your options while seeing which Monster Hunter Wilds weapon is for you. You'll have plenty of opportunities to change it later as well. But, this is what you'll use in your upcoming fight.
Tips for the Chatacabra fight
After picking your weapon, hop on the Seikret mount and track down the girl's brother. This leads to your first fight with the Chatacabra. Since the Chatacabra is small and low to the ground it can be tough knowing where to position yourself. However, you'll want to avoid their mouth since they like to attack using their tongue. Even though their tongue is actually their weak point.
As you become comfortable with their tongue attacks and hand swipes, you can attack their side and front more. The Monster Hunter Wilds tooltips will teach you about wounds during this fight. Take advantage of breaking them to stagger the Chatacabra. This will give you a great opportunity to deal damage.
At a certain point, you'll need to hop back on your Seikret to chase the Chatacabra since they'll flee to other areas. Watch for more useful tooltips regarding your weapon and other helpful info. Once you've slain the Chatacabra, you can carve them for materials to put toward new gear later.
This completes your first quest and leads to the final objective, “Check on the others". Get ready for Chapter 1-2 with more main missions and a new monster to tackle. Or return to the walkthrough hub for other guides.
