The Investigation Continues walkthrough

The Investigation Continues objectives

  • Talk to Alma

Similar to many of the first main missions for a sub-chapter, this one is quick. All you have to do is speak with Alma to leave the Base Camp via a cutscene. After seeing a pack of Doshagama working together, it becomes clear you need to warn the Kunafa village. Once the cutscene ends back in Kunafa, The Investigation Continues mission does as well.

A Hunter's Pride walkthrough

A Hunter's Pride objectives

  • Head to the oasis
  • Escape from the Balahara
    • Optional: Drive off the Balahara
  • Hunt the Balahara
  • Follow the pack
  • Get the Alpha Doshaguma's attention
  • Hunt the Alpha Doshaguma
  • Return to Kunafa

Ride your Seikret outside Kunafa to the oasis where Zatoh is. It doesn't take long to learn that Zatoh is dealing with a group of Balahara, which you may recall from the Monster Hunter Wilds intro in Chapter 1-1. After catching up with Zatoh, you don't seem to need to do anything before reaching the next step. But the objectives imply you can use Screamer Pods to fight the Balaharas.

Tips for the Balahara fight

Your chase sequence ends with falling into a sandpit where the Balahara fight begins. Fortunately, you only have to fight one. The Balahara introduces another status effect, Waterblight. This one drains your stamina which can be annoying if you ignore it. You'll need to either use a Nulberry or dodge a lot to remove it.

To avoid Waterblight, evade the Balahara's gross mucus that they frequently spit and spray. This fight can be a little tough since they attack often using their tail, but also with their mouth too. And unfortunately, they can reach the side of their body using their tail.

However, the Balahara telegraphs their tail attack since they raise it before hitting. Similarly, Balahara will also raise their head high before spitting or lunging down at you. Occasionally they'll do this before swiping forward with their hand.

Aside from these attacks, you'll likely remember from earlier in Monster Hunter Wilds that the Balahara doesn't like Screamer Pods. If you're quick enough, you can use one when they go underground. This will stun them, giving you an opening to safely deal damage. Especially if you want to target their head or tail - though you shoudl prioritise their mouth, which is their major weak point after spitting.

Another quick opportunity to attack is when they're tunnelling underground. You have to be careful since if they're not escaping to another area, they'll pop back out. And if they're enraged, they'll do it quickly. One final tip is to use your slinger to knock them down from the Fulgurite Pillar they will climb.

Save Kunafa from the Doshaguma pack

Once you've finished your fight with the Balahara, you'll return to Kunafa where the Doshaguma has arrived. When the cutscene ends, use your slinger to release the livestock as a distraction. This turns into a linear chase sequence where you'll eventually need to get the Alpha Doshaguma's attention.

I recommend hopping off your Seikret since it's easier to attack without their erratic movement. Once you've done enough, you'll end up back on the Seikret for a second chase. This leads to another cutscene before triggering the Alpha Doshaguma hunt quest.

Tips for the Alpha Doshaguma fight

One major clue to watch for with the Doshaguma is any time they stand on their hind legs. This almost always means they're going to follow up with an attack, even though the attack will vary - such as a flurry of attacks that you can dodge under, or a downwards slam that lifts the ground up and inflicts damage.

You'll have an easier time targeting their side and back legs even though their stomach is a weak point. But, if you're feeling brave, you can break their forelegs to temporarily stun them. As the Doshaguma gets lower in health, you'll wound them more easily. especially if you can successfully mount them to open wounds quicker. Regardless of what monster you're fighting, wounds are always worth focusing on to make a monster vulnerable.

After defeating the Alpha Doshaguma, follow Alma back to the Kunafa village. Once the cutscene ends, you'll have finished A Hunter's Pride and Chapter 1-4. This leads into our next Monster Hunter Wilds walkthrough for Chapter 1-5.
