A Disquieting Dawn walkthrough

A Disquieting Dawn objectives

  • Search for Werner in Azuz

Make sure you're ready for a fight before you track Werner down for a conversation. Surprisingly, Capcom doesn't give you an optional objective to prepare here, but it's likely to avoid making you suspicious. I recommend grabbing Deodorant, Cool Drinks, and weapons for Water or Ice damage if you want to min-max your gear.

Those recommendations are optional since there are still ways to get around them. For example, Chillmantle Bugs work as Cool Drinks and you can dodge away the status effects in this next fight. As far as elements go, you'll get more damage but I wouldn't worry as long as you're upgrading your weapons.

  • Hunt The Black Flame

Long-forgotten Flame dives right into a two-monster fight to change things up. Going from the cold Iceshard Cliffs, we're back in the heat of the Oilwell Basin to defend Azuz. Fortunately, you'll have some help from Olivia.

Tips for the Ajarakan fight

Hopefully I didn't scare you too much at the thought of having to fight two monsters simultaneously. While you do have to fight both of them, they will eventually separate. This makes it a lot easier once you and Olivia split up to fight each one.

Something you may notice while fighting the Ajarakan and other monsters is that they have similar attacks. In a way, this trains you for other fights even when those attacks appear different. For example, the Ajarakan is similar to the Doshaguma in how they rise up and slowly punch down at you. Or how the Rey Dau slides their wing in a straight line towards you. The Ajarakan instead slams their shoulder into the ground and slides straight towards you. While they're far from the same, you will learn to react similarly.

Aside from those attacks, the Ajarakan can also throw magma balls at you, and can put lava on their back, becoming even quicker and more enraged. But most of all, there are the following two moves to worry about:

  • The Ajarakan will smack their back twice with their tail and then grab the ground. It'll start emitting fire toward you as a warning that then doubles in size before you can react. As long as you notice it, you can get out of the way in time.
  • The second attack is where they start spinning rapidly in the ground before flying into the air to divebomb down at you.

Once you've completed your hunt, another pack of Ajarakans will appear at Azuz. Fortunately for you, you won't have to fight these off. But you will have to fight what takes them down. As usual, do any preparation you need to, such as upgrading your gear and resupplying. The only situational items you'll need are Nullberries and Cool Drinks.

For once it's not immediately obvious where this monster is. So if you're not sure how to find The Black Flame, here's what I did. I went out the south side of Base Camp and found a clue going northwest from zone 4 to 9. After finding this clue, it became visible on my map to track. Otherwise, you can likely head to the bottom floor to find The Black Flame.

Tips for the The Black Flame fight

This fight is a cool introduction to a different type of monster. It looks like a fiery octopus which can make it confusing to know where to hit. Fortunately, all of its tentacles are severable. But, you can also focus on its mouth weak point or breaking its head.

A fun trick I recommend is using the Ghillie Mantle to creep up on The Black Flame for a sneak attack. You'll have to press space while standing still to crouch while walking up. You can do this to many monsters and even repeatedly when they escape to a new zone.

Something I always recommend doing is to look around your environment for creatures and hazards you can use. This is especially true with Bomb Beetles, Lumps of Blastcoal to throw, Sleeptoads, Nitrotoads, and more around. You'll almost always have something nearby you can utilise.

Aside from using your environment, The Black Flame has a large flame breath attack. You'll clearly want to avoid this lengthy attack, and while flames are shooting, whack away at The Black Flame's sides. When The Black Flame flings explosive balls into the air, don't bother attacking - you're better off running away.

Once you've completed your Black Flame hunt, the Long-forgotten Flame and Chapter 2-4 are over. Make your way to the Chapter 3-1 Monster Hunter Wilds walkthrough for more tips and tricks. Or you can return to the walkthrough hub for many of our guides.
