A Looming Shadow walkthrough

A Looming Shadow objectives

  • Go to the Wudwuds
  • Finish your preparations and talk to Alma

Before you can get to the new region, you'll have to speak with Alma and venture back into the Scarlet Forest. You'll meet up with the Wudwuds to discuss your Uth Duna fight and the elusive White Wraith. Once the cutscene with the Wudwuds ends, you'll segue to the Oilwell Basin with Zatoh.

Toward Fervent Fields walkthrough

Toward Fervent Fields objectives

  • Head to Azuz, the Everforge
  • Talk to Yabran
    • Optional: Explore Azuz
  • Talk to Alma
  • Search for Maki
  • Hunt the Rompopolo

Follow along the linear path with Zatoh until you reach the new town, Azuz. After your introduction to Azuz, the Everforge, I recommend using your map to find each optional NPC to speak with them. Otherwise, make your way to Yabran to learn more and track the latest monster.

Before you leave Azuz to hunt for the next monster, grab Antidotes. Even though we're in a hot region, I don't believe you need Cool Drinks yet. But you can always grab Chillmantle Bugs off the walls to counteract the heat. And if you're able to, you can use the Water element to deal extra damage to this upcoming monster. Once you're ready, speak with Alma and search for Maki.

Tips for the Rompopolo fight

When your Rompopolo hunt starts you may notice a geyser near them that you can blow up. This is why it's worth looking for Torch Pods in your environment. With that said, I only noticed the geyser once, which the game calls Oilsilt Spouts.

Aside from the Oilsilt Spouts, you should frequently watch for steam rising from the ground at any time. Rompopolo can stick their tail into the ground and explode the area near you or them. This is a common way they telegraph their attacks which can help you avoid an explosive disaster.

When you're not dodging steam, you can take advantage of the hardened ground the Rompopolo leaves behind. Many of their attacks solidify the oil so you don't have to trudge through it. In addition to this, the hardened ground makes it easier to reach higher body parts, which works well for targeting their tongue weak point - or breaking parts like their head, back, tail, and foreleg.

Another trick to watch for is when they do a poisonous charge forward. This leaves their mouth open for a wound attack if you're quick enough. But, if you're unlucky and they poison you, you can use the blue Purewasps to recover. Always check your environment for helpful creatures like these and Sleeptoads too.

After successfully slaying the Rompopolo, you'll have completed Toward Fervent Fields and Chapter 2-1. Make your way to the Chapter 2-2 Monster Hunter Wilds walkthrough for more helpful tips.
