Need help beating Jin Dahaad the second time around in Monster Hunter Wilds' Chapter 5-1? Use our walkthrough for a refresher of the tips and tricks we learned in Chapter 3-2 when fighting them the first time.

This fight is similar but now extends into a new area. And if you haven't quite learned how to survive their one-hit attack, now is the time!

Premonitions walkthrough

Premonitions objectives

  • Investigate the regions and raise your HR

Get back to hunting monsters until you reach Hunter Rank 31 to progress the story. If you want to avoid hitting a wall later in Chapter 5-1, you can get to Hunter Rank 32. Otherwise, you'll need to reach that rank for an objective later. As usual, the best way to level up quickly is by fighting tougher monsters via quests and side quests.

Upon hitting Hunter Rank 31, Alma will tell you to meet Olivia in the Ruins of Wyveria Base Camp. She supposedly has more information about the Dragontorch to share.

Omens walkthrough

Omens objectives

  • Talk to Olivia at the Ruins of Wyveria
  • Investigate the regions and raise your HR
  • Talk to Nata at the Oilwell Basin

After speaking with Olivia, you'll need to reach Hunter Rank 32 to talk to Nata. If you already are, fast-travel to the Oilwell Basin Base Camp and find Nata. You'll still have time to prepare for the next hunt after your conversation.

Storm-cold Vortex walkthrough

Storm-cold Vortex objectives

  • Talk to Alma
    • Optional: Talk to Rove
  • Slay the Jin Dahaad
    • Optional: Lure in the Hirabami
    • Optional: Use the crumbling ice walls

Speak with Rove to complete the optional objective and then begin preparing before talking to Alma. Upgrade your gear and resupply by bringing Nulberries, Flash Pods, a Shock Trap, Hot Drinks, and any useful items to buff your damage and defence. While we can't capture Jin Dahaad, we can still use the Shock Trap. For extra damage, you can bring weapons with the Fire element.

Tips for the Jin Dahaad fight

Similar to previous walkthroughs where I've spared readers with a long drawn-out guide for monsters we've fought already, I'll run through a list of bullet points for beating Jin Dahaad. If you'd prefer the in-depth guide, head over to our Monster Hunter Wilds Chapter 3-2 walkthrough. Before diving in, it's worth noting that this fight is the same as the last time but there's one more area.

  • Use your Ghillie Mantle to creep up for a sneak attack or to use barrel bombs.
  • Prioriise breaking the iceplates on Jin Dahaad's head, lower back, tail, and then the large ones on their upper back. If you're having trouble, just focus on dealing damage any way you can.
  • Jin Dahaad's chest and mouth are weak points.
  • Break wounds to stagger Jin Dahaad and reach certain body parts more easily. Try mounting if you want to create wounds early on.
  • Jin Dahaad has strong coverage around their entire body, making every area only safe temporarily.
  • The second area has three Hirabami monsters you can lure from outside toward Jin Dahaad. This forces a turf war.
  • The second area has Brittle Ice Pillars you can drop for high-damage collisions.
  • You can use Flash Pods to knock Jin Dahaad off the second area walls when they're climbing.
  • Use Giant Ice Chunks to create walls in the third area to survive Jin Dahaad's one-hit kill attack. You can survive it by Superman diving but it's not an easy trick.
  • When Jin Dahaad climbs onto the Giant Frozen Pillar, they'll do a bunch of icy breath attacks you have to dodge. Once the pillar crumbles, you can pull it down for massive damage.
  • Pull down the Crumbling Ice Wall onto Jin Dahaad for high damage and to stun them.
  • The final area is smaller but still has Giant Ice Chunks to use for damage and surviving the one-hit attack.
  • Jin Dahaad has audio cues warning you of a few attacks. Examples include icy breath attacks or when creating an icy cloud around them.

Slaying Jin Dahaad completes Chapter 5-1 and the Storm-cold Vortex main mission. Continue onto the Chapter 5-2 Monster Hunter Wilds walkthrough for more help, even if it's only to know what Hunter Rank you need to reach. Or you can return to the walkthrough hub for our other guides.
