What is the best Long Sword in Monster Hunter Wilds? Long Swords are my weapon of choice in Monster Hunter Wilds; they have the range of the Great Sword, but they're effortlessly more graceful and mobile, striking a good balance between sheer power and the kind of speed you might need for building up elemental status effects on monsters.

If, like I did, you've come to wonder which is the very best Long Sword in Monster Hunter Wilds right now, we've got you covered. Below are our recommendations for which Long Swords to take into the endgame, because they just seem to be a cut above the rest of the Long Sword tree when you consider the damage, sharpness, and innate skills they have to offer.

The Esperanza Edge is a simple to craft endgame Long Sword that's found right at the end of the Expedition Tree that you begin the game with. Despite its relative ease of crafting, it's a powerful sword with respectable damage and extreme white sharpness. Along with the Lv2 Speed Sharpening Skill it provides, this means you'll more or less never find yourself slicing up a monster with anything other than a white-sharp blade. It's a great baseline weapon which you can turn into a phenomenal force with the right assortment of Gems and other Skills.

How to get Esperanza Edge:

The Esperanza Edge Long Sword is the final form of the Expedition tree. Here are the prerequisite crafting requirements:

  1. Hope Edge I: 200z
  2. Hope Edge II: 2x Iron Ore, 500z
  3. Hope Edge III: 3x Dragonite Ore, 2x Machalite Ore, 1500z
  4. Hope Edge IV: 4x Carbalite Ore, 4000z
  5. Hope Edge V: 4x Monster Harbone, 5x Fucium Ore, 14000z
  6. Esperanza Edge: 5x Hunter Symbol I, 1x Bird Wyvern Gem, 20000z

Blood Scream

"The Blood Cry's upgraded form - its supple blade now thickened out for additional rigidity."

Blood Scream, aside from its singularly over-the-top name, sets itself apart from the competition with incredible sharpness - even more so than the Esperanza Edge. It has slightly less raw damage but considerably higher affinity (crit chance), which synergises well with the Lv3 Power Prolonger Skill, which allows you to stay for far longer with a maxed out Spirit Gauge. In this phase, your attacks come much faster, making crit chance more important and useful. And as an added bonus, Blood Scream is the only Long Sword which has a natural Sleep Elemental attack attached to it, which can really mess up a monster's tempo.

How to get Blood Scream:

The Blood Scream Long Sword is the final form of the Nerscylla tree. Here are the prerequisite crafting requirements:

  1. Blood Cry I: 3x Nerscylla Shell, 2x Nerscylla Claw, 1x Sleep Sac, 1500z
  2. Blood Cry II: 1x Nerscylla Certificate S, 3x Nerscylla Claw+, 3x Coma Sac, 5000z
  3. Blood Cry III: 3x Jin Dahaad Certificate S, 5x Nerscylla Spike+, 2x Nerscylla Shear, 3x Monster Broth, 14000z
  4. Blood Scream: 5x Hunter Symbol I, 6x Nerscylla Carapace, 1x Bird Wyvern Gem, 20000z

Gravecleaver Urkemush

"An upgraded Dosha Gravecleaver. Its destructive impulses transform wielders into violence incarnate."

The Gravecleaver Urkemush has the single highest raw damage of any Long Sword, at the cost of -15% affinity. Whenever you see big negative affinity like this, you'll need to make sure you use Gems and Skills to counteract it, but once you're past this headache, you've got the most damaging Long Sword that Monster Hunter Wilds has to offer. And, like Blood Scream, it supplies you with Lv3 Power Prolonger. So if you can work your way quickly up to a maxed Spirit Gauge, you'll be dealing incredible amounts of damage to any monster.

How to get Gravecleaver Urkemush:

The Gravecleaver Urkemush Long Sword is the final form of the Guardian Doshaguma tree. Here are the prerequisite crafting requirements:

  1. Dosha Gravecleaver II: 2x G. Doshaguma Certificate S, 6x Guardian Doshaguma Claw+, 4x Guardian Doshaguma Fang+, 1x Guardian Blood+, 10000z
  2. Gravecleaver Urkemush: 5x Hunter Symbol II, 6x Guardian Doshaguma Fur+, Guardian Pelt+, 1x Beast Gem, 20000z
